Far Away from Far Away Interactive Story
Client: National Film Board of Canada
"Far Away from Far Away" is a digital documentary about Zita Cobb, the visionary social entrepreneur behind the innovative economic and artistic transformation of Fogo Island, Newfoundland. The National Film Board of Canada sought ways to present Zita's compelling and thought-provoking story in a way that would connect with today's documentary fans.
Knowing our target audience was comfortable with technology and would respond well to an immersive experience, we had license to be creative. As long as the solution was intuitive to use and the core narrative was preserved, nothing was off the table. The final product was inspired by the format of 'stories' often shared on social platforms, giving the user some control over the visual experience while captivating narration served as the glue that held the experience together.
Although publicly released in 2021 the experience was overwhelmingly well received for its forward-thinking way of storytelling at the 2019 International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. Then, following it's public release in 2021, the film was awarded FWA of the Day by thefwa.com on March 18, 2021. It has also been nominated for the prestigious Canadian Screen Awards for Best Production for an Interactive Story in 2022.
