Telus Garden is a massive $750 million mixed commercial/residential project in the heart of Vancouver being built by Westbank. The development will become the corporate headquarters for Telus, support a huge range of retailers, and be called home for hundreds of Vancouverites. The project has strong social, environmental, and – above all – technological aspects. Intergalactic was asked to help showcase the many sides of Telus Garden and we set about building a plan integrating interactive, web, visualization, and video.
Visualization
The Intergalactic team decided to move beyond previous expectations of real estate animation and decided that real people needed to be set into the virtual scenes. With the help of some excellent friends at Giant Ant and Faction in Vancouver we filmed actors (and the occasional staffer) on a green screen studio. Because we are nerds we used the RED Epic camera and a massive crane system matching what is being used to film “The Hobbit”. The shoot required extremely precise planning as the filmed scenes needed to exactly match the virtual ones. Markers were placed for walls and obstructions, blocks were placed for desks and columns.
We took the footage back to Intergalactic HQ and began the process of bringing architect Gregory Henriquez’s masterpiece to life. The result is a mind-blowing level of architectural visualization that is being used to lead the branding initiative in theatres, on TV and the web.
Web
We wanted the Telus Garden website to reflect the tech-forward nature of the development. We leveraged the footage from our Viz team to put together an interactive experience at www.telusgarden.com that takes property marketing to a new level. Visitors can explore the project and neighbourhood regardless of browser as we built multiple versions of the website using both Flash and mobile-friendly HTML. The Flash version of the site features full screen CG backgrounds underneath the content.
Interactive
In the presentation centre for the project we built multiple iterations of our InterVista system that allow visitors to look through floorplans, pan through 360 degree views and explore rich media content. The entire room is dominated by a 20-screen video wall that plays our Telus Garden animation.
